The Cardamom Pod is a gourmet Prasadam restaurant on the Gold Coast at Broadbeach. It is an offshoot of the famous Cardamom Pod in Byron Bay.

Recently owner Mamta Pinnell was interveiwed by ADORE magazine who have published an article showing the beautiful restaurant where you can take delicious prasdam.

ISKCON Leadership Sanga (ILS) in Sridham Mayapur

The ISKCON Leadership Sanga (ILS), in Sridham Mayapur, is scheduled from February 10th to 17th. The ILS will provide an opportunity for GBC members to share with ISKCON’s initiating gurus, sannyasis, temple presidents, project leaders, and congregational leaders, the process of strategic planning they have undergone and the progress they have achieved.

In turn, the GBC hope that those devotees who are attending will provide the GBC body with the invaluable feedback it needs. The hope is that it leads to a better strategic plan – one that everyone is enthusiastic to implement in their areas of responsibility.

ISCOWP Update – It’s Cow Protection you know

When you tell your friends you support cow protection and they look at you like you must be crazy, are you frustrated? You try to explain but the concept is so foreign to them that they aren’t really listening.

Let’s make the words “cow protection” household words and end our frustration as well as increase the numbers of cows protected. The more people who understand cow protection translates into more people who support cow protection and that means more cows protected.

Starting in April, we will be producing video clips about activities at the farm specifically ox training, the importance of cow protection, caring for the cows in all seasons and food production and preserving. These will all be shot in the living classroom setting of ISCOWP farm as we go about our everyday activities. We will upload the videos to You Tube and we can also upload to our Facebook and Cause page.

Our Cause page has 6,102 members and the Facebook page has 4,521 likes and 1,500 weekly users. With the combination of YouTube, Facebook and Causes, we feel we will reach a wide audience to educate and inspire people to the spiritual and material value and importance of cow protection in this age.Eventually, we will organize these videos into educational disks for distribution.

ISKCON Leaders to Gather in Mayapur for Inspiration and Support

A unique second festival will be held alongside the world-famous Mayapur Festival this year in West Bengal, India. On behalf of ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission, the GBC’s Strategic Planning Team will organize the first International Leadership Sanga (ILS) from February 10th to 17th.

The festival is the GBC’s attempt to reach out to ‘middle tier’ leaders all over ISKCON—unsung heroes working hard on the ground to keep their temple going day to day. At ILS, they will see the big picture (that ISKCON is alive and well and vibrant around the world); meet and share challenges and successes with fellow leaders; and be entertained and inspired by seminars and special performances. The GBC hopes that they can then take these experiences back to their base and encourage and inspire their individual constitutencies.

Another major aspect of the event is to give the leaders the chance to meet and build rapport with the GBC members, and vice versa.

“The GBC hopes that the International Leadership Sanga will give devotees the chance to see the relevance of the GBC body in action, thus helping to increase awareness of the GBC and develop its identity in ISKCON,” says ILS onsite organizer Laxmimoni Dasi, who is also the GBC secretary and a member of the Strategic Planning Team since 2008.

She says that the GBC will use the ILS to gather information by polling and surveying leaders. “We want to get a dialogue going, hear what they have to say and use that information to better serve devotees,” she explains.

Did Lord Nrsimha appear on Germany 32,000 years ago?

Much news about prehistoric finds and their possible meaning has been revealed to the world in the last decade. One report of an article found in South Germany is said to leave scientists amazed. The “lion man” is an artifact made from the tusk of a mammoth in the form of a human body with a lion head. Amazingly dating shows it could be 32,000 years old.

This discovery garnered a lot of attention in archaeological circles in Europe. In Excavations around 1930-35 at the Lonetal area near Ulm, German scientists had found an immense cave system with lots of prehistoric artifacts.

Initially only representations of birds, horses, turtles and even single lions where found but not a morphological combination of men and animal. Naturally the “lion man” find was seen to be unique. It became also clear during the later examinations that the “lion-men” was used for ritual purposes, unlike the other items which seemed to have accompanied the dead.

The “lion man” was found exactly at the place in the cave where day and night meet, about 20 meters away from the entrance, and buried 1.2 meters deep. Many parts of the figure were broken and where found scattered in the area. It took some time to finish the work of and reconstructing the figure and to see it as a whole.

Breaking News: Oprah Winfrey visits ISKCON Vrindavan, bodyguards scuffle in Mathura

Details are not available yet, but the Jaya Sri Sri Radha Shyamasundar web site is reporting that Oprah Winfrey visited ISKCON Vrindavan earlier today. Oprah is a major celebrity and has a lot of influence. In recent times she has espoused benefits of a plant based diet and done shows on being Vegetarian/Vegan. She got into a fight with the cattle industry and even recently did a Vegan show showing the grotesque method cow slaughter to the public. So nice to see her visit the land of Krishna and His cows

Celebrated American talk show host Oprah Winfrey’s sightseeing trip to the western parts of Uttar Pradesh was marred by an ugly scuffle on Thursday.
On her way to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, Winfrey decided to visit the ISKCON temple in Mathura. A large number of people and journalists also gathered outside the temple to meet the star host.
As she was leaving the temple premises, a scuffle broke out between journalists and Winfrey’s bodyguards. The journalists were allegedly manhandled by the guards who also broke cameras.
There was heated exchange of words between the journalists and the bodyguards. Winfrey later left for Agra.

NEW DELHI — Indian police briefly detained three of Oprah Winfrey’s bodyguards after they scuffled with local TV journalists Thursday, a news agency reported.

The American talk-show host had been traveling with both American and Indian bodyguards while visiting the Hindu pilgrimage town of Mathura, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Delhi.

Thugs Vandalise Hare Krishna Farm Entrance

THE Hare Krishna community at Eungella is considering installing security lighting after repeated acts of vandalism at the entrance to the farm.

The community built a new sign featuring a bull statue a few months ago, which has attracted a string of graffiti attacks.

Crude drawings and the words “Islam for Lyf”(sic) have been sprayed across the sign and in the most recent attack, the bull’s horns were smashed from its head.

Resident Damoda Dasa said the community had contacted the police, but the vandalism had been a problem for years.

“A few years ago they lit one of our bins on the bridge, trying to burn the bridge down,” Mr Dasa said.

“Sometimes people will come hooning through the farm, running over all our fruit trees.

“We’re exploring the idea of some form of surveillance but it all costs a lot of money.”

Vilas Brown said she had anticipated the sign would attract attention.

“This is the first time we’ve done a sign like this and we anticipated we’d get some trouble.

“It’s ignorance, they have no understanding of our beliefs or what we do here, we have nothing to do with Islam.

“We’re part of the community, some of the residents own local businesses and the kids all go to local schools.”

“We invite 300 people to the farm every Sunday, people are always welcome here so this is very frustrating.”

The community was set up in the 1970s as part of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

The beliefs of the residents are based in Vedic Hinduism with focal points in respect for people of all walks of life, organic vegetable gardening and vegetarian cooking, temple worship, meditation, and chanting.

The cow is a sacred animal with dairy products forming an important part of their diet.

Go Puja @ New Gokula Farm

New Gokula Farm hosted the event of Makara Sankranti this January 14th , which was celebrated by a large gathering of around 200 people.

Arranged by devotees from the suburbs of Sydney ,the event proved a great family occasion, with around 35 families involved in offering a tradional Go-puja, conducted under the competent direction of Mr Jatin Kumar, well known bhramin priest of Sri Mandir in Auburn.

Devotees of New Gokula ,who are committed to the welfare of a herd of 58 cows and bulls were naturally inspired seeing the sincere offerings of mantras and oblations directed to beseeching the blessings of mother cow.

His Holiness, Janananda Goswami ,present for the inauguration of the Puja ,read relevant passages from the holy Puranas extolling the imperativeness of protecting the cows and bulls ,who personify religious principles ,and in whom all Devatas have chosen to reside. As directed in the Vedic scriptures ,happiness in human society cannot manifest without appropriate protection of our worshipable mother cow, who ,by the Supreme Lord’s divine arrangement , is the most magnanimous benefactor of human society among all species of animals.

The seven cows chosen to represent the herd enjoyed plentiful green hay and grains ,while the ceremonies were performed, and were then returned to the adjacent pastures, reminding devotees of the pastime of herding cows performed personally by Lord Sri Krsna Himself, five thousand years ago in Vrindavan.

Accompanied by blissful sankirtan ,the noon arati was performed to The Deity forms of Sri Sri Radha Gokulananda , and then a wonderful sumptuous feast containing plentiful fresh milk products such as panir , yoghurt ,and ghee was joyfully honored by all the devotees.

The occasion was duly completed in true Gujarati style by the pastime of kite flying ,enjoyed by the young ,as well as the young at heart. Scores of colorful kites decorated the skies above New Gokula, sailing gracefully in the pleasant afternoon breezes.

As the sun descended in the west ,unwilling children were herded into their vehicles ,whilst parents assured them ,that they would surely be returning to New Gokula farm for more adventures in the very near future. There seemed to be a unanimous vote to establish an annual Makara Sankranti festival ,and to bring friends along to this uplifting Holy-day.

Our sunday love feast program is also back up and running every week from 5pm at Govindas (city). Health Care Providers’ Handbook includes Hare Krishnas

The Health Care Providers’ Handbook on Hindu Patients is a quick-reference tool for health workers to use when caring for Hindu patients. The handbook aims to help health workers understand the religious beliefs and practices of Hindus that can affect health care, and provide links to further advice and resources.

The handbook covers a range of topics including prayer and meditation, astrological beliefs, karma, fasting, end of life issues, maternity care, and food requirements.

It is important to note that because of personal and cultural variations in the way Hinduism is practiced the handbook can only provide general information and advice. Health workers should always consult their patient about their personal level of religious observance.

The handbook was developed by Queensland Health with the assistance of the Hindu community of Queensland
